Starting preschool is a big transition for your child. Parents can play a big role in preparing little ones for this new adventure. If you don’t properly prepare them, it can be a little scary and overwhelming. Here are some tips to help prepare your toddler for the right away and help ease the adjustment.
Establish a Schedule
Following a morning and nightly routine can make it easier for you and your child to transition. Early childhood education professors agree that structure and rules will teach children responsibility, help them stay organized, and give them a sense of reassurance.
Give Your Child Time to Adjust
Our preschool teachers understand that it takes time for children to adjust to their new school schedule. In our experience, it takes children roughly 6 to 8 weeks to feel comfortable with their teachers and fellow classmates. Consistency will help children push through the first several weeks.
Pack and Item from Home
It’s perfectly natural for children to suffer separation anxiety during the first few weeks of preschool. To ease this anxiety, we recommend packing comfort items. Comfort items are personal belongings that children use for sleep and comfort. Whether they have a favorite teddy bear or blanket, letting them take this item to school will remind them of home.
Plan a Visit to the School
Introducing your child to their teacher and letting them explore their school room before school starts will help ease their fears. At Corner Canyon Academy, we love having new parents and their children stop by to see how our welcoming our preschool teachers are.
Utah’s Balanced Beginning for Your Precious Child

Our teachers will help students develop critical thinking skills and build their self-esteem through structured learning. Your child will enter a new learning environment that allows them to explore their curiosity and develop strong mental and physical capabilities. We want to help them sharpen the skills you have already instilled and create a foundation of happy, successful learning!
