One of the things we are most proud of at Corner Canyon Academy is our early childhood reading program. Children are learning from the moment they are born, and they are never too young to start learning to have a love for reading. Daily reading is a great way to establish a healthy foundation of mental development for your children. We find that reading with children, and teaching them to read at a younger age helps to teach them the skills they need to be successful in learning in the future.
Why Early Childhood Reading?
Reading to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers helps them to develop new words, sounds, colors, objects, and shapes. When they are exposed to a variety of books, they are able to develop healthy relationships with literature. Nurturing young minds helps to prepare them for later learning in elementary school. Children that attend Corner Canyon Academy in the Salt Lake valley are prepared with skills such as identifying letters, understanding and saying correct sounds for letters, and are capable of recalling characters and story themes.
Not only does early childhood reading help children to develop, it helps parents and teachers prepare from a young age for difficulties in readings or learning deficiencies that can hinder their children’s ability to thrive in school.
Our Reading Program
We encourage parents to read with their children on a daily basis. Starting at a young age is a great way to help children learn new sights and sounds daily. Changing up books allows them to be exposed to new storylines, and they will start asking questions as you read with them. Many of our young readers will even start to point out letters, and even words that they can read. Preschool children learn shapes, colors, counting, animals, and so many things, that reading simply helps to enhance these learning activities.
